Why is it okay for BET to degrade women, support drugs and crime, and put down Whites? If white peop;e were to have a channel that was for white entertainment why would that be racist? This is wrong if black entertainment can call us honkeys and casper and shit why is it racist to call them nigga ... they call themselves that...It is rasist that we can't have our own channel, while they make skurs on public tv everyday. If blacks don't like rasism why do they make rasism a COOl thing. All they do on that channel is teach adolesents to follow losers. Why do they think whites are so bad when we give them everything they want.......... Actually I do know that BET is owned by Rich whites, but That is no excuse for the way the blacks on the channel act. Whites may own the company, but blacks are making their own videos and comments thank you very much

I think BET should be kicked off.It is illegal,and it is a crime for a white male to use the n word,but blacks use cracker and other bad things.And blacks find BET to be a cool thing.

I agree. I'm not racist or anything like that but i think that it is ridiculous for what some black people do and how they act. If there would be a WET then there would be a big controversy.
Wow, this is a very interesting question. I don't really know how to answer it, because I might end up being racist myself. Maybe it's just that certain groups of bacl people have their own way of living and racism is part of it. Try to remember that until Martin Luther King Jr. came along, blacks had no rights or freedom. Before the Civl War they were slaves. So I guess its a little understandable if they want to get back at us sometimes. However, BET does seem to do it a lot and it can get annoying. So I guess it's just because some blacks think it's all right to be racist to whites since they were racist to us long ago. I definitely agree with you though that BET does make racism seem like a COOL thing and I also think that making drugs and mistrating women is a stupid thing to portray as "good". BET needs to adjust itself into modern society because many blacks are friends with many whites these days.
First of all BEt is owned by white people now and they have made the network worst. Every TV channel is White entertainment Television because white peopel own them all. White people on the E! channel degrade women all the time.
Do some research please. BET is owned by VIACOM. Same people who own MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, CMT, CBS, etc. in other words, its the rich white people capitolizing off of the hip hop culture. So get mad at them. There are plenty of rappers out there with positive images. Unfortunately, those are not the ones who are mainstream right now. The rappers do not decide whether or not their videos are played. The programming department at the television station does that. And I can guarantee you that if ONLY black people were buying these albums, this music would not be as popular as it is right now. Which means, A LOT of white people are buying them as well. Maybe even more. So, while I understand what you're saying.... you're still directing it towards the wrong people. And, no... I'm not defending the music. I've worked in the music industry for the past 7+ years. I don't like a lot of the music myself. I don't like the message it sends. But, this happens to be a topic I KNOW a lot about. Its not just my opinion.

There is one station with predominately black shows (BET). There are at least 5 stations with predominately white shows (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, CW). White people have every advantage you can possible have. Can we have 1 channel? Is that OK? Does it hurt you that much? You're being greedy. Nobody on TV calls white people by racists names. Stop lying.

Sarah, whydo you think that BET is a mainstream channel in all black households. Some black people do not like BET, MTV or CMT. Why do you chose to make such general statement when you have no idea what the majority of blacks do in their homes, most people do not know, because we can not be in everyones home. And what is it with people in this N-Word mess, I am so sick of people telling me I should be okay with a word that I do not use. I am suppose to be okay with something that I find offensive. Until you walk a mile in my shoes, stop telling me I should be okay with someone using the N-Word because some black people want to use it.
Most media is geared toward white veiwers and there's plenty of those who put down blacks in a more subtle way. Blacks just tend to be more blatant (except in the case of that Seinfeld guy) Either way, whites on tv have been offensive AND blacks on tv have been offensive. But one thing is true, why is it necessary for BET to keep flashing the negative side of black life? Guess it's like some of the new stuff on CMT...money over content.
