  1. Lust
  2. insecurity . he thinks no one else will sleep with him or power . he has all the control if hes raping her
  3. I think that for most rapists it is a control thing-they like having control over women and if I remember correctly they get no sexual gratification for it. I think if you want your book to be realistic you should speak to a rape victim support group or a psychologist as if you deal with such a controversial subject badly it will not help your book. Good luck with it
  4. In most cases, men rape women just because they want control over something. They don't do it for the sex. And, usually, it's someone who the woman knows well. But the reasons why they would want control may vary. Maybe he's a boyfriend and she tried to break up with him but he didn't like that so he raped her. On a similar note, maybe he had reason to believe she was cheating and he raped her to gain control over her or to threaten her to not cheat. (Whether she actually WAS cheating is up to you.) Maybe she was drunk and consensually did it. In many states, it's considered rape if one or both parties are drunk. Maybe they're dating and she's a minor and she's an adult and they have sex so then it's considered rape. I think we need more details. Who is he in relation to her? What is their history? What are the circumstances of the rape? EDIT: Okay, well that changed things a lot. She could have gone to a club (maybe she's using a fake ID. Maybe it's an 18 and under club) and either one or both of them could be drunk and he advances on her and she asks him to stop but either he's so drunk he doesn't care or she's so drunk that it sounds like she's only joking. Then he motivation would be intoxication. It could be a one night stand and he could think she's into it but she's really not and he just doesn't GET that.
  5. Rape is not about sex, lust, or anything like that. It is about power and control. Rape is about showing that you can harm another with impunity. Rapists fall into several broad personality profiles; you can find out more in the Wordplay section of your local BIG bookstore, in books about creating personality for story characters. In general, a male rapist has average to low intelligence, has a sex life that is described as average to satisfying, and is in a low-income job or lives on public assistance. Most rapists know their victims; stranger rape is almost always perpetrated by a person of the same race as the victim. Rapists usually have several areas of their lives where the feel powerless--family relationships, addiction, job security or advancement, etc, or even more abstract ("I can't afford an education"). The ability to physically violate a woman is nothing more than bullying, using his greater strength to give himself a brief feeling of control over another. Anyone suggesting that rape is sexual or lust based is sadly misinformed. Since you are writing a book, you should also explore the loss of self esteem and learned helplessness experienced by the victim, followed by Post Traumatic Stress and overwhelming survivor's anger. Rape victims also tend to falsely accuse other men of sexual advances and assaults. Most want to "forget about IT". Most are victimized by their families, friends, and even the courts afterward ("you are dirty now", "How were you dressed", "What did you offer him?""Its your own fault"). You might find rape counseling books online.
  6. Another idea: he's addicted to sex.
