What exactly is sports massage and how does it differ from ordinary massage?

I dislocated my knee in December and I was braced in a split for several weeks. Ive been having physiotherapy since January, as I had a lot of muscle wastage and couldnt bend my knee or walk. I've done really well but I still have a bit of stiffness and bit of pain in my groin (cough). Could sports massage help please? Thank you for your replies so far. It's not for sport, just for improving my general mobility.

  1. A sports massage is given just before and just after the sport to keep your muscles warm and tendons lose! it is different from a normal massage because that is to just feel nice, refresh your body and get rid of knots and stiff spots in your body!
  2. Sports massage focuses more on muscle stretching whereas a traditional massage is more centered around relaxation. I get sports massages done every other month and they are typically more painful than the standard massage.
  3. A 'sports ' massage means you are a good sport if you don't 'spurt' all ove rthe masseuse.
  4. "Sports massage is a particular branch of massage that focuses on relieving skeleton-muscular tension and returning the muscles to a loose, relaxed state. Sports massage techniques provide a number of important benefits to athletes. Since they regularly train their muscles hard for peak performance, and then go out a push their bodies to the limit and beyond, they are prone to constant and chronic injuries. Sports massage helps to prevent some of those injuries, as well as speed up recovery time and relieve extreme muscle cramping and tension."
  5. I have sports massage for particular points on the body. Usually I might say something like 'my legs and feet today. please' but sometimes I feel the need for a deep-seated massage. If it's done too near the joint it can be painful, and your muscle can be just a bit sore and tender too, but if you suffer from some kind of immobility then a sports massage will help. Hope this helps you.
  6. Ouch! Sports massage is great for improving training, preventing injury, and enhanceing an athlete's perforrmance. By improving the blood circulation the athlete is able to train more efficiently. It also helps in the removal of waste products and renews tissues. Tissue damage/ imbalances can be caught earlier and possibly corrected before an injury occurs. It's pretty much awesome, in a nutshell! Sports Massage is an advanced technique and there are different kinds, like...Sports Massage for golfers, Sports Massage for runners, etc. So, if you decide to see a massage therapist, make sure they've had experience with that type of sport so that you get the maximum effect/benefit.
  7. In youre Groin, I think youre looking for the other type of massage with extras
  8. Sports massages focus on reliving discomfor in the muscles from repeted use during exercise. This massage is different because the muscles are stretched and massaged. This is a good massage for any involved in physical activity not just athletes. If you need more detail ask the massage theropist or even your doctor. This should be goood for your knee. It may even speed your recovery
